The Complex Systems Laboratory
is a research facility in the Department of Geography at the
University of Montreal, dedicated to the modelling, simulation and analysis
of coupled social-ecological
systems. Contact us.
Our goal... The long-term objective of our research program is to advance scientific understanding of the dynamics of coupled social-ecological systems and, based on this new understanding, to propose better approaches to environmental management, restoration and protection. Applications of our research include understanding the impacts of human disturbance on ecological communities, development of new ecological indicators for ecosystem monitoring and the creation of decision support systems for the management of parks and protected areas. We work in close collaboration with non-academic partners from government and industry sectors.
Our research is founded in complex systems science and we work actively to advance the field of ecological complexity. What is ecological complexity? You are invited to peruse our Research page for more information on current research in the lab. Director: |
News! Announcing a new program in Modelling Forest Complexity. This inter-university program, directed by Christian Messier (UQAM) and co-directed by Lael Parrott (UdeM), will form 100 undergraduate and post-graduate students over the next five years. For more information see the program web site. Featured projects 3D Metrics toolbox for analysing 3 dimensional and spatiotemporal data in Matlab.
